Kos Island offers a well-organised and convenient transportation system, making it easy to explore both the town centre and the wider island. Kos Town itself is relatively compact, allowing visitors to comfortably walk between most attractions, shops, and restaurants.
Getting Around Kos Town
Walking is one of the most practical ways to explore Kos Town due to its small size and pedestrian-friendly layout. In addition, cycling is extremely popular, with dedicated bicycle lanes available throughout the town centre. Renting a bicycle is an economical and enjoyable option for short distances.
Public Bus Network
Kos has a reliable and widespread public bus system that connects the town centre with beaches, villages, and key attractions across the island. Bus routes and schedules are clearly displayed in both English and Greek at bus stops and can also be obtained from the tourist information office. The main bus station is located behind the post office in Kos Town.
Taxis in Kos
Taxis are widely available, particularly around Kos Harbour, Asklepion, and the castle area. They offer a convenient way to travel, especially for shorter distances or direct routes. Taxi fares are regulated, with an approximate fixed rate of €1 per kilometre.
Bike, Scooter and Quad Rentals
For more flexibility, visitors can rent bicycles, motorbikes, or quad bikes from numerous rental shops across the island. These options are ideal for exploring more remote areas. However, caution is advised when driving on busy roads, and wearing a helmet is mandatory.
Kos Mini Train Tours
For those who prefer a more relaxed sightseeing experience, Kos offers a small tourist train service that visits major historical sites and key areas. It operates several times a day during the summer months and is a convenient way to explore without walking.
