It was an important center of science and learning during the Menteşeogulları period. Beçin Castle and City was referred to as Barçın or Berçin in old texts, and appeared as “Petzona” in a treaty signed by İlyas Bey of the Menteşeogulları with the Venetians in 1414. With structures such as Ahmed Gazi Madrasa, Yelli (Kepez) Madrasa, Karapaşa Madrasa, and Orman Tekke, the city became a significant educational center.
