It is one of the coastal cities of Caria. The remains of its harbor have survived to the present day. Myndos (Gümüşlük), one of the important coastal cities of the Carian region, maintained its wealth thanks to its harbors. It is one of the eight Leleg cities on the Bodrum Peninsula and later became a member of the Attic Delian League. Its importance increased during the Mausolus period. Underwater studies have identified many harbor structures from different periods. These findings show that the city had continuous harbor activities from ancient times to the present.
