The Ancient City of Stratonikeia has been continuously inhabited from the Hittite period to the Ottoman era. Excavations in the region show that settlement has existed from the Late Bronze Age to the present day. The city was known as Atriya during the Hittite period, Khrysaoris and Idrias in the Archaic and Classical periods, Stratonikeia in the Hellenistic period, and finally Eskihisar in later times.
