Aspat Castle, known in antiquity as Strobilos, is located in the Akyarlar region of Bodrum, at the foothills of Aspat Mountain. Also known among locals as Çıfıt Castle, this historical area has seen continuous settlement from the 7th century BC to the Middle Ages.
With a history dating back to the Byzantine period, the castle was also used during the Ottoman era. Thanks to its strategic location, it served the purpose of monitoring the Aegean Sea and defending the region. From the 15th century onwards, the settlement likely declined rapidly due to security reasons.
Due to its elevated position, Aspat Castle held great importance in terms of military and defense in the past. Its commanding view over the Aegean Sea enabled control of movement in the region, and the castle was used as an important observation point for many years.
Although only the remains of the walls and stone structures of Aspat Castle have survived to this day, it offers visitors one of the most impressive views in Bodrum. This spot, where history, nature, and the sea come together, is a unique stop for walking, exploration, and photography.
The Aspat region, with its calm atmosphere and natural beauty, is an ideal route for those who want to escape the crowds of Bodrum. You can walk among the historical ruins, take photographs accompanied by unique views, and discover the authentic texture of the area.
