The Latmos Mountains rock paintings were discovered by the German archaeologist Peschlow and date back to 6000–5000 BC. Almost all of the paintings were made using red pigment. The paints were derived from iron oxide and hematite found in the region. There are rock paintings at nearly 200 different locations.
